Climate Action Unscripted

Honoring Women, Men, and Children Shaping a Sustainable Future

On 24th October 2025, Kenya will come alive with stories of hope, courage, and unity.

The Ewaangan Awards, inspired by the maasai word meaning "to brighten," celebrates the extraordinary individuals lighting the way for climate resilience.

We gather to honor not just women but also the men and children standing alongside them, building stronger communities and a healthier planet for generations to come.

Mission

Why Join Us?

What if the solutions to climate change lay not in advanced technology, but in the untapped strength, innovation, and leadership of women across Kenya?

Well, in the face of mounting climate challenges, Kenya stands at a pivotal moment to lead in this transformative change.

Yet, as communities navigate rising temperatures, unpredictable weather patterns, and resource scarcity, women have emerged as agents of resilience and innovation. From small holder farmers adopting sustainable agricultural practices to local entrepreneurs championing green technologies, the contributions of women are not just vital - they are indispensable.

BACKGROUND

Women’s participation in developing countries climate action is crucial because they are negatively impacted by the deteriorating state of the climate/environment.

They are increasingly on the receiving end of the ill effects of climate change due to their role in communities, their economic status, and their vulnerability in the face of environmental changes.

And here are some key aspects of how women are impacted by and contribute to climate change

Why Ewaangan Awards?

“Ewaangan” is a Maasai word that translates to ‘lighting up’.

This has been amplified to mean that the future of women and communities is bright because we are lighting up their hope through climate action.

The Vision

Why Women & Climate Action?

Global and Local Impact

Women make up 70% of the global agricultural workforce and are disproportionately affected by climate change, yet they are often excluded from decision-making processes.

Resilient Leadership

In Kenya, women have been at the forefront of grassroots climate solutions—turning adversity into opportunity through ingenuity, leadership, and collaboration.

Why This Matters

Climate action is no longer optional; it is essential. By centering women in these efforts, Kenya has the opportunity to become a model for transformative, inclusive resilience.

The Gala Dinner is a call to recognize and support the women who are already leading this charge while forging new pathways for innovation and growth.
